I wanted to try some acrylic papers so I can sketch and paint quickly without using canvas or boards. Ended up buying these two 400g paper, Strathmore (linen texture) and Canson (coldpress). I only used the Strathmore one and so far I like the result. It doesn’t warp too much when applying washes and holds color pretty well.
Canson paper has a pretty smooth surface so I think it will work great with details, I haven’t tried it so lets see how it goes.

Great!!! I just got the new James Jean book, REBUS. It’s his new book with 240 pages of artwork he created from 2001-2011. It features his illustrations, sketches and paintings (acrylic and oil) and also designs for his work on Prada. This guy can do it all!!!!
It doesn’t show any of his cover work for Fables comics and it makes sense cause there is a book already published with all of those illustrations (I own that one too!!). I really enjoy his stuff so I am glad I got this before its sold out.
I went to “Too Art for TV 5” exhibit last night to check out some art made by artist working in the animation industry.  It is mostly paintings and drawings made by animators, illustrators and designers working in NYC.
There is one painting that stood out, “The Battle of Fort Montgomery” (first picture), because of the quality of the piece. It depicts the historical battle between American and British forces in 1777. That one should hang in a museum if you ask me.
Here are some pics:
“Bunnycutlet‘s largest and longest-running show to date is Too Art for TV, an annual exhibition designed to promote and encourage the fine arts in the animation industry. We look for work that isn’t your typical animation fair, and we accept anybody who works in animation broadly. We believe that artists in the animation industry have extraordinary artistic skills and a unique perspective on pop culture at large. We hope to continue to provide a reliable home for animation’s creative minds otherwise “owned” by networks and studios.”
Yeah!!! Got this book delivered yesterday and I am liking it.
Its “Pixar, 25 Years of Animation”, a catalog that showcases the artwork exhibited at MOMA a few years back and also works from current movies up to Toy Story 3.
Lots of great artworks in this 208 pages of designs, sculptures and concept art in different mediums. The shark drawings in charcoal are insane!
Awesome book for any Pixar fan or any one interested in animation. Too bad its only 208 pages, I want 400 more!!!

Just came back from Jason Limon‘s new show at Bold Hype Gallery called Blood*Nectar.
I don’t remember where I saw his work before but I do remember it was fun to look at and I had that same feeling again when I saw the show. Read the rest of this entry »

Went to check out Jeff Soto’s solo show on Saturday at Jonathan Levine Gallery. He is a painter from California and I actually have one of his books. I saw some pretty cool paintings and took some pictures to prove it. Read the rest of this entry »

I can’t wait to get this book!!! coming out in June I think.
I already own CFSL 1, 2 and 3 and they are all amazing.
Lots of great designs and artists ,known and unknown, most of the work are digitally created but there are paintings and sketches as well.
It has a mixture of character designs, background designs, illustrations and miscellaneous.
Great source for inspiration and great books to have!
